Why do we sin?

The real reason, why do we actually sin, we can understand from the most famous biblical story of the creation and fall of man.

In the Genesis 2,16-17 it is written, that יהוה God gave man just a single ban: "but of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil you may not eat, for in the day of the eating of it, dying you shall die." It was an amazing time - one could do anything and everything was good, except for this "little thing." I'm sure everyone knows the result of the story of the first man and woman. Woman was deceived by a snake, ripped the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and she gave it to the man. They both "tasted" it. Why???

In the Genesis 3,6 is written: "And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that to the eyes it was to be desired, and the tree was desirable to make one wise." This sentence seems very important to me, because it points to human desires. Let's look at it again: a tree with fruits good to eat. This description points to one part of human "nature" - the desire of our body. What is a desire of our body? A human is very attracted to everything that "does him good", which does good to his body. It's all that promises pleasant feelings to a person. I'm sure everyone will find enough examples - e.g. good food, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. Another part of our sentence concerns desires for the eyes (eye-catching). A person is searching for everything he likes. It can be any beautiful thing - paintings, houses, cars, women (men) etc. Let's look at the last part of the sentence - a tree promising omniscientness. This part concerns human pride. Man wants to be a master of himself (God). He wants to make his own decisions about his life and what's right and good. I think we can understand the real reason we're sinning from the sentence examined. At first glance, our lust is an obvious reason. This is true, but let's go even deeper beneath the surface. The real reason is our distrust to God (unfaithfulness). Man and his wifesaw that God planted a beautiful garden for them, and gave them the right and power to rule over the whole Earth. God has given only good gifts to mankind, but people still did not believe him that He meant well with them, and that He only wanted the best for them. Every time we sin, we say it over and over again, that we do not trust God. We don't trust Him, and we think he wants to impoverish us. We want to take care of fulfilling our requirement and desires.

It is possible that if we realize the real reason why we are still sinful l and choose to trust in God's love for us, sin will lose its power over us, or rather put it – it will lose at least part of its attraction for us! Ask God to warn you whenever you want to fulfill your desires yourself. He's happy to do it..
