1Vzhůru! Zaskvěj se! Neboť zde je tvoje světlo, a nad tebou vzchází Jahvova sláva. 2Zatímco nad zemí se rozprostírají temnoty a nad národy tma, nad tebou vzchází Jahve a jeho sláva se zjevuje nad tebou. 3Ve tvém světle budou kráčet národy a králové ve tvé vycházející záři. 4Pozdvihni oči a rozhlédni se: všichni se shromáždili, přicházejí k tobě. Tví synové přicházejí zdaleka a tvé dcery jsou neseny na zádech. 5A tak uvidíš a rozzáříš se, tvé srdce se zachvěje a povznese, neboť k tobě bude proudit bohatství moře a přijdou k tobě poklady národů. 6Pokryje tě množství velbloudů, mladá zvířata z Madianu a z Efy, přijdou všichni ze Sáby, přinesou zlato a kadidlo a budou hlásat Jahvovu chválu. 7Shromáždí se u tebe všechna stáda z Kedaru, budou ti k službám berani z Nebajotu, vystoupí na můj oltář jako příjemná oběť a já oslavím svůj skvostný dům. 8Co to poletuje jako oblak, jako holubice ke svým holubníkům? 9Ve mne doufají ostrovy: lodi z Taršíše se postavily do čela a přivážejí zdaleka tvé syny s jejich stříbrem a jejich zlatem kvůli jménu Jahva, tvého Boha, Svatého Izraele, který tě oslavil. 10Synové ciziny postaví znovu tvé hradby a budou ti sloužit jejich králové. Neboť ve svém hněvu jsem tě bil, ale ve své laskavosti jsem se nad tebou slitoval. 11Tvé brány budou stále otevřeny, ani ve dne, ani v noci se nebudou zavírat, aby se k tobě nanosilo bohatství národů a uvedli jejich králové. 12Vždyť národ a království, které by ti nesloužily, zahynou a národy budou vyhlazeny. 13Přijde k tobě sláva Libanonu, cypřiš, platan i zimostráz, všechny naráz, aby oslavily místo mé svatyně, abych poctil místo, kde se zdržuji. 14Pokorně k tobě přistoupí synové tvých utlačovatelů, k nohám se ti budou sklánět všichni, kdo tebou pohrdali, a budou tě nazývat: „Jahvovo město“, „Sion Svatého Izraele“. 15Namísto toho, abys bylo opuštěné a v nenávisti a nikdo tebou neprocházel, učiním z tebe věčnou chloubu, zdroj radosti od věku do věku. 16Budeš sát mléko národů, budeš sát bohatství králů. A poznáš, že tě zachraňuji já, Jahve, že tvým vykupitelem je Jakubův Mocný. 17Místo bronzu dám přivézt zlato, místo železa dám přivézt stříbro, místo dřeva bronz, místo kamení železo; jako vládu nastolím Pokoj a jako vládce Spravedlnost. 18Už se ve tvé zemi nebude mluvit o násilí, ani o pustošení a o troskách na tvém území. Arise--from the dust in which thou hast been sitting as a mourning female captive (

shine--or, "be enlightened; for thy light cometh"; impart to others the spiritual light now given thee (
Isa 60:3). The Margin and GESENIUS translate, "Be enlightened"; be resplendent with posterity; imperative for the future indicative, "Thou shalt be enlightened" (
Isa 58:8,
Isa 58:10;
Eph 5:8,
Eph 5:14).
glory of the Lord--not merely the Shekinah, or cloud of glory, such as rested above the ark in the old dispensation, but the glory of the Lord in person (
Jer 3:16-
Jer 3:17).
is risen--as the sun (
Mal 4:2;
Luke 1:78, Margin).
2 darkness . . . earth--the rest of the earth: in contrast with "light . . . upon thee" (
Isa 60:1). The earth will be afterwards enlightened through Israel (
Isa 9:2).
be seen--conspicuously: so the Hebrew.

nursed at thy side--rather "carried at thy side." It is the custom in the East to carry the children astride on the hip, with the arms around the body (
Isa 66:12).

Isa 60:4), namely, the bringing back of thy sons.
flow together--rather, "overflow with joy" [LOWTH]; or, from a different Hebrew root, "be bright with joy" [GESENIUS] (
Job 3:4).
fear--rather, beat with the agitation of solemn joy at the marvellous sight [HORSLEY] (
Jer 33:9).
be enlarged--swell with delight. Grief, on the contrary, contracts the heart.
abundance of . . . sea--the wealth of the lands beyond the sea, as in Solomon's time, the type of the coming reign of the Prince of peace.
converted--rather, "be turned," instead of being turned to purposes of sin and idolatry.
forces--rather, "riches."
6 camels--laden with merchandise; the camel is "the ship of the desert" (compare

dromedaries--They have one hunch on the back, whereas the camel has two: distinguished for swiftness (

Midian--east of the Elanitic branch of the Red Sea, and stretching northward along Mount Seir. Associated with the Ishmaelites in traffic (
Gen 37:25,
Gen 37:28).
Ephah--part of Midian, east of the Dead Sea. It abounded in camels (
Judg 6:5).
Sheba--in Arabia-Felix, famed for frankincense and gold (
Ps 72:15;
Jer 6:20), which they traded in (
Isa 45:14;
Job 6:19;
Ezek 27:22).
7 Kedar-- (
Isa 21:16;
Song 1:5), in the south of Arabia-Deserta, or north of Arabia-Petrća; they traded in flocks (
Ezek 27:21).
Nebaioth--son of Ishmael, as was Kedar. Father of the Nabatheans in Arabia-Petrća.
minister--by coming up as an acceptable sacrifice.
come up with acceptance--that is, acceptably. The rams offering themselves voluntarily (
Ps 68:30;
Rom 12:1;
1Pet 2:5), without waiting for any other priest, answer to believers strong in faith and lamb-like meekness; and in the white fleece-like robe of sanctity [VITRINGA].
house of my glory--the temple (Eze. 41:1-26;
Hag 2:7,
Hag 2:9;
Mal 3:1).
