1V prvním roce Dareia Médského jsem tedy i já zaujal postoj, abych jej podporoval a poskytoval mu ochranu. 2Teď ti tedy oznámím pravdu: Hle, v Persii povstanou ještě tři králové a pak čtvrtý zbohatne jměním nade všechny větším. Ten postaví veliké množství vojska, avšak to množství bude vydáno do ruky onoho 12a celé množství bude rozneseno. Postaví totiž množství větší než to předchozí. 22Před ním budou smeteny nespočetné síly a budou rozdrceny, ba i vůdce smlouvy. 23A ze spojenectví s ním učiní podvod a vystoupí a bude silný s trochou národa. 24V míru a do nejúrodnějších míst provincie přijde a učiní, co nečinili jeho otcové ani otcové jeho otců. Kořist a lup i majetek jim rozhodí a proti opevněním bude vymýšlet své plány, ale až do času. 25Také podnítí svou sílu i své srdce proti králi jihu při velikém vojsku. Král jihu tedy zmobilizuje k boji nadmíru veliké a mocné vojsko, ale neobstojí, neboť oni proti němu vymyslí plány. 26Rovněž strávníci z jeho zásob ho porazí a jeho vojsko odplaví on. Tehdy mnozí padnou probodeni. 27Srdce obou králů budou nakloněna ke zlu, i u jednoho stolu budou mluvit lež, ale bez úspěchu, neboť konec nastane teprve určenou dobou. 31Tehdy z něho povstanou síly a znesvětí svatyni — pevnost. 35I z těch, kdo rozumějí, budou klesat, aby byli mezi nimi tříbeni a čištěni i běleni až do času konce, neboť nastane teprve určenou dobou. 43Ovládne poklady zlata i stříbra a všechny vzácnosti Egypta, Lúbíjci a Kúšijci budou následovat. Tehdy dospěje až ke svému konci a nebude, kdo by mu pomohl.

Judg 1:7 Hos 12:14 Matt 7:2 19 but. From the preceding verses in this chapter let us learn,
1. That God, in his providence, sets up one and pulls down another, as he pleases.
2. That this world is full of wars and fightings, which result from the indulgence of the lusts of men.
3. That all the changes and revolutions of states were plainly and perfectly foreseen by the God of heaven.
4. That no word of God can fall to the ground, but what he has declared shall infallibly come to pass. For the elucidation of the historical parts of Scripture, it is advantageous to notice the writings of heathen authors: light is thus thrown on many passages of Holy Writ, by shewing the accomplishment of the prophecies therein contained, or customs elucidated, which, in the course of years, or in our more northern latitude, would be to us inexplicable. We have therefore reason to bless God for human learning, by which many have done great service to the readers of His blessed word.

Dan 11:31) relate to the Romans, who not only destroyed the city and temple of Jerusalem, and crucified the Messiah, but during almost 300 years sought by every means to extirpate Christianity. The conversion of Constantine, though it stopped the rage of persecution, gave but little help to true religion. The power first exercised by the emperors, in calling and influencing ecclesiastical councils, gradually passed into the hands of the clergy; and the bishop and church of Rome at last carried it to an enormous length, magnifying themselves above every god.
