1Srdce krále je v Hospodinově ruce jako bystřina, nakloní ho, kam se mu zachce. 2Člověku se vždycky zdá, že se chová dobře, je to však Hospodin, který zkouší srdce. 3Žít spravedlivě a čestně je nad oběť milejší Hospodinu. 4Pyšné oči a naduté srdce - pochodeň zlosynů - jsou hříchem. 5Nač pomyslí pilný, je jenom k zisku, ale kdo je zbrklý, ten má jen škodu. 6Poklady nahromaděné křivým jazykem jsou mizící pára a léčky smrti. 7Násilí zachvacuje samotné zlosyny, neboť odpírají jednat spravedlivě. 8Plné kliček je chování zločinného muže, ale dílo počestného je přímé. 9Lepší je přebývat v koutku na střeše než s hubatou ženou ve společném domě. 10Jen ke zlu míří zlosynova touha, nenalezne u něho soucit jeho bližní. 11Nezkušený zmoudří z trestu posměvače, moudrý z poučení dostane rozum. 12Spravedlivý Bůh olupuje zlosynův dům, zlosyny vrhá do zhouby. 13Kdo si ucpe ucho při chuďasovu křiku, nedojde sluchu, až sám bude křičet. 14Dar potají daný tiší hněv, úplatek potají věnovaný tlumí velikou zlost. 15Spravedlivý má radost, že se uplatňuje spravedlnost, hrůzou je to pro ty, kdo páchají nepravost. 16Člověk, který zbloudí z cest moudrosti, spočine ve sboru mrtvých. 17Kdo miluje zábavu, bude třít bídu, kdo má rád víno a vonný olej, nezbohatne. 18Výkupné za spravedlivé zaplatí zlosyn, za poctivé zaplatí zrádce. 19Lepší je přebývat v pusté zemi než s hubatou a popudlivou ženou. 20V domě moudrého je drahocenný poklad i vonný olej, ale hlupák je prohýří. 21Kdo tíhne za spravedlností a láskou, najde život a slávu. 22Moudrý dobude města siláků, strhne pevnost, na kterou spoléhali. 23Kdo chrání svá ústa a jazyk, sám sebe chrání před úzkostmi. 24Jméno pyšného nadutce zní posměvač, který se chová do krajnosti drze. 25Žádosti lenocha jsou příčinou jeho smrti, neboť jeho ruce se štítí práce. 26Hříšník stále jen touží mít víc, zato spravedlivý dává a nešetří. 27Oběť zlosynů je ohavnost, zvláště když ji přinášejí za zlým cílem. 28Lživý svědek zahyne, a kdo poslouchá lživé svědectví, bude stále pronásledován. 29Zlosyn dává najevo svou drzou tvář, poctivý si však dává na své chování pozor. 30Není moudrosti, není chytrosti, není rady proti Hospodinu. 31I když je kůň připraven pro den bitvy, vítězství závisí na Hospodinu.
