1Moudrá žena vzdělává dům svůj, bláznice pak rukama svýma boří jej. 2Kdo chodí v upřímnosti své, bojí se Hospodina, ale převrácený v cestách svých pohrdá jím. 3V ústech blázna jest hůl pýchy, rtové pak moudrých ostříhají jich. 4Když není volů, prázdné jsou jesle, ale hojná úroda jest v síle volů. 5Svědek věrný neklamá, ale svědek falešný mluví lež. 6Hledá posměvač moudrosti, a nenalézá, rozumnému pak umění snadné jest. 7Odejdi od muže bláznivého, když neseznáš při něm rtů umění. 8Moudrost opatrného jest, aby rozuměl cestě své, bláznovství pak bláznů ke lsti. 9Blázen přikrývá hřích, ale mezi upřímými dobrá vůle. 10Srdce ví o hořkosti duše své, a k veselí jeho nepřimísí se cizí. 11Dům bezbožných vyhlazen bude, ale stánek upřímých zkvetne. 12Cesta zdá se přímá člověku, a však dokonání její jest cesta k smrti. 13Také i v smíchu bolí srdce, a cíl veselí jest zámutek. 14Cestami svými nasytí se převrácený srdcem, ale muž dobrý štítí se jeho. 15Hloupý věří každému slovu, ale opatrný šetří kroku svého. 16Moudrý bojí se a odstupuje od zlého, ale blázen dotře a smělý jest. 17Náhlý se dopouští bláznovství, a muž myšlení zlých v nenávisti bývá. 18Dědičně vládnou hlupci bláznovstvím, ale opatrní bývají korunováni uměním. 19Sklánějí se zlí před dobrými, a bezbožní u bran spravedlivého. 20Také i příteli svému v nenávisti bývá chudý, ale milovníci bohatého mnozí jsou. 21Pohrdá bližním svým hříšník, ale kdož se slitovává nad chudými, blahoslavený jest. 22Zajisté žeť bloudí, kteříž ukládají zlé; ale milosrdenství a pravda těm, kteříž smýšlejí dobré. 23Všeliké práce bývá zisk, ale slovo rtů jest jen k nouzi. 24Koruna moudrých jest bohatství jejich, bláznovství pak bláznivých bláznovstvím. 25Vysvobozuje duše svědek pravdomluvný, ale lstivý mluví lež. 26V bázni Hospodinově jestiť doufání silné, kterýž synům svým útočištěm bude. 27Bázeň Hospodinova jest pramen života, k vyhýbání se osídlům smrti. 28Ve množství lidu jest sláva krále, ale v nedostatku lidu zahynutí vůdce. 29Zpozdilý k hněvu hojně má rozumu, ale náhlý pronáší bláznovství. 30Život těla jest srdce zdravé, ale hnis v kostech jest závist. 31Kdo utiská chudého, útržku činí Učiniteli jeho; ale ctí jej, kdož se slitovává nad chudým. 32Pro zlost svou odstrčen bývá bezbožný, ale naději má i při smrti své spravedlivý. 33V srdci rozumného odpočívá moudrost, co pak jest u vnitřnosti bláznů, nezatají se. 34Spravedlnost zvyšuje národ, ale hřích jest ku pohanění národům. 35Laskav bývá král na služebníka rozumného, ale hněviv na toho, kterýž hanbu činí.

Every wise, &c.--literally, "The wisdoms" (compare
Pro 9:1) "of women," plural, a distributive form of speech.
buildeth . . . house--increases wealth, which the foolish, by mismanagement, lessen.
2 uprightness--is the fruit of fearing God, as falsehood and ill-nature (
Pro 2:15;
Pro 3:32) of despising Him and His law.
3 rod of pride--that is, the punishment of pride, which they evince by their words. The words of the wise procure good to them.
4 crib is clean--empty; so "cleanness of teeth" denotes want of food (compare
Amos 4:6). Men get the proper fruit of their doings (
Gal 6:7).
5 A faithful witness, &c.--one tested to be such.
utter lies--or, "breathe out lies"--that is, habitually lies (
Pro 6:19; compare
Acts 9:1). Or the sense is, that habitual truthfulness, or lying, will be evinced in witness-bearing.
6 An humble, teachable spirit succeeds in seeking (
Pro 8:9;
John 7:17;
Jas 1:5-
Jas 1:6).
7 Avoid the society of those who cannot teach you.
8 Appearances deceive the thoughtless, but the prudent discriminate.
9 Fools make a mock at sin--or, "Sin deludes fools."
righteous . . . favour--that is, of God, instead of the punishment of sin.
